The food delivery industry and stolen bikes

Food delivery and bicycle theft

Is the growth in the food delivery industry in Australia correlating with the huge spike in bicycle thefts and in particular that of E- bikes?

It appears that the food delivery industry should be conducting due diligence in relation to the transport used by its riders and whether same are actually stolen bikes.

In signing on as a delivery rider there does not appear to be any due diligence performed as to the serial number and the like of the bikes utilised.

A review of the property vault website records the details of amongst other property, stolen electric bikes.

A cursory look at the subject website reveals that the value of bikes stolen each week exceeds the tens of thousands of dollars.

Obviously, a number of these bikes are either dismantled or re sold in one piece in other states or possibly overseas.

The use of trackers and tags does not appear to have reduced the amount of theft.

The current situation calls for more stringent regulation of the food delivery industry.
